IGT Slot Machines

July 14th, 2008 by Beat Casinos, How To Beat The Casinos, www.howtobeatthecasinos.com

I’m a big fan of the slot machines made by International Game Technology, or IGT for short. They’re always of great quality, and the slot machine games are great fun to play too. And on the whole, I’ve found their slot machine payout percentages to be player friendly.

Over the years, IGT have produced a wide range of games. I’m not going to try and list them all here (there are probably thousands of classic games and derivatives) but the following is a list of some of their more popular titles. IGT owns WagerWorks, an online casino development company, which in turn runs the Virgin Casino online. Some IGT games are available online at Virgin Casino. Where that is the case, I’ve provided a link to Virgin Casino so that you can play too! Free play and cash play are both available. Please note that ALL games featured here are registered, copyright, and / or trademarked to International Game Technology, of Reno, Nevada (USA).

Some of the IGT slot machine games I’m aware of are: 12 Times Pay, Black Rhino, Cleopatra, Diamond Cinema, Diamond Mine, Dollars Deluxe, Double Bucks, Double Diamond, Double Diamond 2000, Double Diamond Deluxe, Double Diamond Mine, Double Diamond Run, Double Dollars, Double Pay, Double Red White and Blue, Double Ten Times Pay, Five Times Pay, Five Times Pay (Black and White), Game King, Game King Plus, Little Green Men, Little Green Men Jr, Lucky Deal Poker, Market Madness, Megabucks, Megajackpots, Midnight Madness, Money Storm, Multi-Line Madness, My Rich Uncle, Nickelmania, Nickels Deluxe, Quartermania, Quarters Deluxe, Red White and Blue, Regis Cash Club, Slotto, Super 8 Race, Super Cherry, Super Double Pays, Ten Times Pay, Texas Tea, Top Dollar Deluxe, Triple Bucks, Triple Cash, Triple Diamond, Triple Diamond Deluxe, Triple Dollars, Triple Double Diamond, Triple Double Red White and Blue, Triple Lucky 7′s, Wheel of Gold, Wild Cherry, Wild Cherry Pie, Wild Diamonds, Wild Five Times Pay, Wild Star, Wild Thing.

Successful Slot Play Tips

July 14th, 2008 by Beat Casinos, How To Beat The Casinos, www.howtobeatthecasinos.com

Here are some of my personal tips for successful slot play. They’ve done me well over the years, but individual results may vary. And luck / timing does of course play a big part in things too. Whether you’re a professional slot player (which I believe to be 40+ hours per week) or a “fun player” (or casual player), the following tips may be of use to you.

1. Take enough money (bankroll) to play. In order for you to sustain your required play time, you must be able to invest a sufficient amount of money to warrant a successful play period. This will be dependent on the type of machine, the frequency of hits / wins, and the denomination value you choose to play. If you’re playing a machine at $1 per spin, and want to play for a few hours or more, I’d suggest a bankroll of $500. If you’re playing $5 machines, that bankroll should be $2,500. If you’re playing quarter / 25c machines (at 25c per spin), then $150 or thereabouts may be sufficient. Many slot players lose their money because they don’t have sufficient bankroll to last them in between jackpots.

2. Be patient. Jackpot combinations don’t spin up all that often. Bet low amounts and give yourself the maximum number of spins possible for your bankroll – the more spins you have, the more chances you have to get that elusive jackpot! Don’t make big bets on impulse or out of frustration, that could unnecessarily hurt your bankroll (i.e. don’t bet $1 on a $500 bankroll, and then through frustration start playing $9 per spin)! Keep a level head, and a level bet throughout. Separate emotion from logic. Logically, you’re hoping to get a return on investment. You’ve got to make the investment first – but don’t panic when things go wrong. Keep your bets low and equal – and hope for some luck!

3. Never play just for casino comps. Whilst complimentaries from the casino are always nice to receive, they never equal in value what you’d need to spend (in the long term) to justify them. Let’s say a casino gives 1 point (worth 1c) for every $4 into a machine. It’s not worth risking $2,000 ($400 x 5) just to get a $5 comp is it? If you’re playing anyway, that’s fine – but never play over what you were going to, just to get a casino gift. That cash is better in your pocket than theirs!

4. Know when to quit a machine. No slot machine will continually pay out. Generally slot machines will give and take in some form of “cycle”. If you’re winning, move on to another machine. If you’re not winning, ask yourself whether the machine seems to be in a cold cycle (showing you lots of “near wins” – but not actually giving you any payouts), or whether it’s a small glitch soon to come right. If it’s a glitch, stay where you are and continue playing, and wait for the up swing. If you believe it’s a “cold cycle”, cut your losses and move on. Knowing when to quit is one way of protecting your investment.

5. Know when you’ve made enough. When is enough profit enough? For me, anytime I’ve made 25% or more above my starting bankroll, I’ll leave a machine. If I’ve got a budget of $100 for the machine and after putting in say $80 I’ve got $125 of credits, that’s good enough. I cash out and move on. If I’ve put $20 into a machine and I’ve now got $25 after a hard fought battle (i.e. on a 5c machine), I’ll cash out and move on also. Your own thoughts will determine when enough is enough for you – but DON’T get too greedy. Greed can be very unlucky!

6. How often should you play? That’s up to you, and it will depend upon your reasons for playing and the time you have available. For most readers, I’d recommend visiting a land based casino about once a month, for a few hours of dedicated profitable play time (i.e. focused time when you’re there for one reason only: to make a profit whilst playing slots). Internet casino players might wish to visit more frequently – i.e. one night a week (as the slots typically pay higher online). But you should always only play to your own bankroll and time requirements.

7. Which casino should you play in? This is trickier for land-based casinos, due to the wide range of potential considerations: location, reputation, audience catered to (i.e. high end like Bellagio, low end like Circus Circus), comp policy, etc. For online casinos, it’s easier. Avoid casinos that are licensed in the Carribean, in South America, in Africa, and similar destinations. Casinos that are licensed in the UK or surrounds (UK, Ireland, Malta, Gibraltar, Isle of Man) tend to be very reputable, and pay out when you win. These reputable solidly licensed casinos are the only types of casinos promoted here on Beat the Slots: Betfair Casino,Virgin Casino, Littlewoods Casino, Coral Casino, Cyberslotz, Butlins Casino, VIP Casino, Yahoo Games.

8. Which kind of slot machines should you play? Three real slot machines without progressive meters attached typically pay well (i.e. Double Diamond Slot Machine – which pays back 95.08%). Video slots (i.e. 20 lines etc) like IGT Texas Tea Slot Machine, or Captain Quid Slot Machine, or Join the Race for Riches, are an entertaining way to pass time, with an edge that’s not too detrimental (assuming all lines are played on each spin). However, they do tend to be a little lower in payback (on average) than the traditional reel spinners. Whilst there’s no hard and fast rule, online casino slot machines do tend to pay back a bit better than those in land-based casinos (the overheads are lower – they can afford to be more generous on the game payouts).

Perhaps you’ve got some of your own slot tips you’d like to share with other readers of this blog? If that’s the case, send me an email at davewestlondon@yahoo.co.uk. I’d love to hear your views and ideas!

Advertised Slot Paybacks

July 14th, 2008 by Beat Casinos, How To Beat The Casinos, www.howtobeatthecasinos.com

Many a new slot player has been deceived by the land-based casinos when walking past a slot carousel (with a number of REEL slot machines attached), and a big sign saying “98% return”, or “Most liberal slots”, or “Up to 98% return”. Why? Because a new player may innocently assume that every $1 put into any such machine on the carousel will return 98c (etc) – and that’s a BAD ASSUMPTION. It doesn’t matter whether this claim is made on the carousel itself, or in newspaper or magazine advertising. What you see is not always what you get. Here’s why:

One: If a casino has that “98% return” or similar sign above a bank of slot machines in a carousel, by law in most countries, only ONE of those machines must be set to pay back at least 98% or more in the long term. Therefore, the one machine paying back 98% may well be surrounded by other machines on the same carousel paying back 80%. It’s more than likely that in the case of the 98% return, the other slots are paying back at say 92% – but the fact of the matter is clear: not ALL of those machines are paying back 98%. And that’s the first “delusion” that can trap new players.

Two: If a casino mentions “Up to…” anywhere in its advertising, be very suspicious. A casino sign might say “Up to 97% payback”… that means it could really be anywhere from say 70% UP TO 97% payback. Be careful. Casinos typically have lower paying percentages on their 5c, 10c and 25c machines (88 – 92% typical) and keep the higher paying percentages (92 – 98% typical) for $1 and up machines. However anything is possible. So stay on your guard!

Three: Let’s assume that the 98% return mentioned in One is TRUE for a particular slot machine in the bank / carousel. That still doesn’t mean that this machine will return 98c for every dollar put into it TONIGHT / TODAY. What it does mean is that over the life cycle of that particular machine, it will average payoffs that are equivalent to 98% of all the money put through it. But of course the big jackpots that make up a fair chunk of that 98% could strike at anytime…

I’m not in any way suggesting that you shouldn’t play the slots you see advertised in this way. You should: they’re fun, and if they’re truly set to the levels advertised they’re a reasonable bet overall as far as casino bets go. However I do suggest that you exercise careful thought around which of the machines you should play in each casino – taking the above into account. In the smoke and mirrors world of casinos, things are not always as they first appear – so check first, before committing your coins to the abyss!

Find Hidden Casino Values

July 8th, 2008 by Beat Casinos, How To Beat The Casinos, www.howtobeatthecasinos.com

Looking at my blog analytics today was a useful experience. First of all, I’m happy to report that traffic to the blog is growing fairly consistently over time – which is great, and hopefully means that I’m providing unique information that you want to read! Our Feedburner RSS Feeds are growing in popularity too. But secondly, the analytics reveal that many visitors are not looking at more than a few pages of the blog on each visit. This could be for many reasons: visitors are coming daily / regularly so don’t need to read the older content; visitor time is short so they read only the very latest articles for ideas; visitors see the constantly changing home page content, and if there isn’t an article of interest they don’t continue further into the site.

I’m thinking that the reason some users don’t dig too deeply into the site is that they can’t find the casino articles by topic. If there’s one limitation I find with Blogger, it’s that it seems difficult to set up navigation areas by topic. This might just be my “training” with the product – but it’s something I’d like to overcome (so, fellow bloggers, if you have any ideas let me know). I have a wide range of readers from all around the world – but many emails I receive ask for advice on specific topics: i.e. how to beat roulette, how to beat blackjack, how to beat slot machines, how to win cash and prizes on the Internet.

In time I’m going to look into how best to resolve the “topic” issue. I’d like to be able to offer you drop down menus of articles on blackjack, roulette, craps, sic bo, casino promotions etc. As a compromise in the meantime, are you aware that you can use the “SEARCH BLOG” functionality at the top left of every page? For example, if you want to read posts I’ve written about “Blackjack”, simply type “Blackjack” into the search box and press the “SEARCH BLOG” button. The search functionality is pretty good – it does find all articles containing the search words you enter. Want to read posts I’ve written about “Roulette”? Type “Roulette” into the search box and press the “SEARCH BLOG” button. Try it NOW – it’s a great way to navigate around the site, and an alternative to seeing articles by month etc.
