Casinos in Massachusetts Are Coming Closer

The four competing casino development operators are Penn National Gaming (touting the Hollywood Casino), MGM Resorts (touting the MGM Resort), Mohegan Sun (who want to operate a Mohegan Sun property in Massachusetts), and Hard Rock Casinos.

The Bee Gees once sang “I’m going back to Massachusetts”. It’s a while since I’ve visited Massachusetts myself (and the last time I went was to Boston, rather than Springfield area where most of the proposed casino developments are likely to occur)… but I’m keen to go back. It’s a nice place, with really nice people. And now I’m even keener to visit again, as Massachusetts is about to decide on a casino operator. Yes, for some months now there’s been heat in Massachusetts about the opening of a casino there. States in the USA are increasingly looking to gambling revenues to help balance their books, and increase tourism. Massachusetts is a slow starter when compared to Atlantic City, Vegas, and Reno, but the plans I’ve seen for the new casinos look good.

The four competing casino development operators are Penn National Gaming (touting the Hollywood Casino), MGM Resorts (touting the MGM Resort), Mohegan Sun (who want to operate a Mohegan Sun property in Massachusetts), and Hard Rock Casinos. Ah yes, these are all large USA gaming operators – which is a good thing. Big players mean big security, big trust, and big payouts for players – something I’m all in favour of. Whilst each of the casino plans is quite different from another, the trend towards large numbers of slot machines (3000+) and only a small number of table games (80-100) seems consistent. This simply goes to prove that slot machines, as they have for many years, are still the biggest revenue earners for casino operators. I’m not sure who will win the challenge / licence for the casino in Massachusetts, but the race looks to be very exciting. And I’d love to visit when the intended casino is up and running.

Until a casino is built, you can’t play in it of course… but online casinos are available right now to serve your needs. Play in one of the world’s best online casinos whilst Massachusetts casinos are still being thought through. I can recommend Betsson Casino, Casino Euro, and Betsafe Casino.

  1. In Boston last year I went up to some random track card room in NH cause I couldn’t be bothered going all the way to Foxwoods. Good times

  2. Good call. Foxwoods was a pretty impressive property when I visited though. It’s still the largest casino in the Northern Hemisphere. I spent about 6 hours there on a day long junket – was fun. Their keno room was one of the biggest I’ve ever seen too.
